All the Freckles in the World
All the Freckles in the World is a 2019 Mexican coming-of-age romantic comedy. It was directed by Yibrán Asuad in his first film. The cast includes Hanssel Casillas, Loreto Peralta, Luis de la Rosa, Emiliano Castro, Andrea Sutton and Alejandro Flores. The film runs 89 minutes and is in Spanish. Netflix released it worldwide on January 3, 2020.
The story is set in 1994. Thirteen-year-old José Miguel moves with his family to Mexico City during World Cup fever. He falls in love with Cristina and also gets drawn into a love triangle with Liliana and Kenji. The plot includes moments like a birthday cake, a cassette tape, a kiss, and a clash over Cristina’s affections. Over time, José realizes he also has feelings for Liliana. The ending shows him moving to a new home and meeting a new girl, suggesting more to come.
Filming began in August 2018. The trailer was released on July 4, 2019. The movie premiered in Mexico on September 27, 2019 and later arrived on Netflix worldwide.
Box office can be counted as about US$945,000 in Mexico during its theatrical run. The film received mixed reviews. Some critics praised the direction, the cast, and the nostalgic feel, while others called it a solid but not life-changing coming-of-age story.
