Milford, Kansas
Milford is a small city in Geary County, Kansas, United States. It is part of the Manhattan, Kansas metropolitan area and had 408 residents at the 2020 census.
History and name
Milford was first laid out in 1855 under the name Bachelder and later changed to Milford. In its early days, the town had a lumber mill.
Geography
Milford covers about 0.59 square miles (1.53 square kilometers), all land.
Climate
The area experiences hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters, a humid subtropical climate.
Population and living
There were 168 households and 119 families in 2020. The town is mostly White, with small numbers of other races and about 8–9% Hispanic or Latino. The average household size is about 2.0 people and the average family size about 2.5. About one-third of households had children under 18.
Education
Milford is served by Geary County USD 475. Milford High School has been closed; its mascot was the Panthers.
Economy
From 2016 to 2020, the median household income was around $46,000, with a relatively small portion of residents below the poverty line.
