Wednesday Night Baseball

Wednesday Night Baseball is ESPN’s live Major League Baseball game on Wednesday nights during the regular season. It began in 1990 and is produced at various MLB ballparks with a multi-camera setup. Games usually start at 7:00 pm ET and run about three hours, with Baseball Tonight following after the game.

Originally, ESPN aired Wednesday night games every week through 2021. From 2000 to 2005, there was sometimes a doubleheader—one game on ESPN at 7:00 pm and a second on ESPN2 at 10:00 pm. The second game in the doubleheader ended after 2005 as ESPN added more Monday Night Baseball. ESPN DayGame, an afternoon Wednesday game, also existed but was discontinued after 2006.

In 2022, ESPN reduced its MLB schedule and made Wednesday Night Baseball exclusive to ESPN. A 2021 contract gave ESPN about 30 exclusive broadcasts, with 25 on Sunday Night Baseball, so Wednesday night games became fewer and mostly aired on ESPN rather than across multiple networks. Since 2022, most remaining Wednesday games have been shown on ESPN.

In early 2025, ESPN and MLB agreed to opt out of their contract after the 2025 season. In November 2025, they announced a new three-year deal for about 30 games per season, but Sunday Night Baseball would move to NBC Sports. The schedule would focus on summer weeknights, including Wednesdays.
