Majerus Falls
Majerus Falls is a 12-metre (39-foot) waterfall on the Murtle River, in Wells Gray Provincial Park, east-central British Columbia, Canada. It is about 90 metres (295 feet) wide, roughly the same width as Dawson Falls downstream. The falls are one of seven along the Murtle River, which runs west of Murtle Lake.
The falls were discovered by Joseph Hunter, a surveyor for the future Canadian Pacific Railway, on May 25, 1874. He did not name the falls, but he named the Murtle River and Murtle Lake after Milton of Murtle in Scotland. Majerus Falls and nearby Majerus Lake are named for Michael Majerus, one of the early homesteaders in the Clearwater Valley. He built a cabin beside the Murtle River above Dawson Falls in 1912 and lived there until 1946.
Access is by a hiking trail from Pyramid Campground. The trail follows the north side of the Murtle River, skirting Pyramid Mountain. It is 10 km (6.2 miles) each way, and takes about 3.5 hours to reach the falls.
