WKZE-FM: KZE 98.1
WKZE-FM (98.1 MHz), known as KZE 98.1, is a radio station licensed to Salisbury, Connecticut. It serves the upper Hudson Valley, northern Harlem Valley, and northwestern Connecticut. The station is independently owned by FM Pilot, LLC and broadcasts an adult album alternative format. The studios are on North Broadway in Red Hook, New York. Its programming is also heard on translator station W290BZ at 105.9 FM in Red Hook.
History
- In January 1986, the FCC added 98.1 MHz to Salisbury’s radio allotments.
- Johnson Development Corporation, owner of WKZE (1020 AM), received a construction permit in March 1988.
- The WKZE-FM call letters were assigned on March 10, 1988.
- The station was licensed in 1993.
- In September 1993, ownership moved to Willpower Radio, LLC.
- In 2006, the studios moved from Sharon, Connecticut, to Red Hook, New York.
- In July 2009, Willpower LLC acquired translator W256BI.
- In December 2024, WKZE-FM was sold to FM Pilot, LLC for $515,000.
Programming
WKZE-FM plays a mix of folk, world, blues, rock, and jazz, creating an eclectic sound. It also produces live broadcasts called Parlour Sessions from national and local artists. Artists featured include The Jayhawks, Andrew Bird, Dar Williams, Drive-By Truckers, Sharon Jones, The Decemberists, The Beatles, Chris Stapleton, Wilco, Vieux Farka Toure, My Morning Jacket, Guy Davis, The Waterboys, Natalie Merchant, Miles Davis, Tom Waits, and others.
