WACQ
WACQ (580 AM) is a Tuskegee, Alabama radio station licensed to Tiger Communications, Inc. and operated by Fred Randall Hughey. Since June 28, 2012, it has broadcast an oldies format—“the greatest hits of all time”—to listeners in the Montgomery area, with local hosts including Hughey. The station reaches more people through its FM translator, 98.5 FM (W253CZ in Tallassee); it previously used 101.1 FM (W266BJ) from 2006 to 2019.
WACQ runs at 500 watts by day and 139 watts at night (Class D). The station’s history goes back to 1952, with former call signs WTUS (1952–1959), WABT (1959–1973), and WBIL (1973–2012). The WACQ call letters first appeared on 1130 AM in Tallassee in 1979; that station later moved to 580 AM in 2012, replacing WBIL.
Weekday programming includes Way of the Cross with Brother Rick Dorley and What’s Going On? with Rick Dorley and Fred Hughey, plus local news, weather, and sports. Weekend programming features The Saturday Morning Show, Reeltown High School football replays, Troy University football, and Sunday gospel services from local churches.
Listeners can stream online at wacqradio.com or via TuneIn. WACQ has sister stations WAUD, WQNR, WQSI, and WTGZ.
