KSHU is the student‑run, non‑commercial radio and TV station at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. Located in the Dan Rather Communication Building, KSHU-FM (90.5 MHz) and KSHU-TV (cable channel 7) are run by students in the School of Mass Communications and are not affiliated with any network.

KSHU-FM and history
- Frequency and power: 90.5 MHz, about 3,000 watts.
- On air since: August 1, 1974, originally at 89.3 FM with 10 watts. In 1988 it moved to 90.5 FM and increased power.
- Music and content: An eclectic mix including jazz, classical, college rock, classic rock, and hip‑hop; also broadcasts SHSU home football, basketball, and baseball games (some away games).
- Coverage: Most of Walker County and parts of surrounding counties.
- Branding: “90.5, the Kat,” named after the university mascot. Overnight, KSHU-FM is simulcast on KSHU-TV.
- History and operations: In the past, all roles were student‑written and produced; automation now allows 24/7 operation when students aren’t available. Since 2005, KSHU has hosted a 12‑hour live Relay for Life broadcast.

KSHU-TV and programming
- Channel: Cable-only on SuddenLink channel 7.
- Daytime: Educational programming from Annenberg/CPB.
- Evenings: Student‑produced content.
- News: A live 30‑minute evening newscast airs on weekdays at 6 p.m., written and hosted by students.
- Weekends: Reruns of popular shows.
- Language and community: KSHU-TV offers a Spanish‑language newscast and runs a community bulletin board for campus and local nonprofit events during overnight hours and weekends.
