Visions of Paradise (The Moody Blues song)
Visions of Paradise is a 1968 song by the Moody Blues from the album In Search of the Lost Chord. It runs 4 minutes 15 seconds. It was written by Justin Hayward and Ray Thomas, and is led by Hayward’s singing with Ray Thomas’s flute. The lyrics describe a songwriter’s idea of paradise and have a dreamy, surreal feel.
During recording, Mellotron sounds from Mike Pinder were used, created by bouncing tapes between machines on a 4-track setup (later moving to 8-track). Hayward says he and Thomas wrote the song in a soundproof broom cupboard attached to the studio, using acoustic guitar and flute to avoid disturbances. In 2008, an instrumental sitar mix was released as a bonus on the remastered reissue.
