Vinoy Thomas
Vinoy Thomas is an Indian writer from Kerala who writes in Malayalam. He was born in Nellikkampoyil near Iritty in Kannur district and studied at St. Joseph's High School, Kunnoth, before graduating from the University of Calicut. He teaches at the Government High School in Ulikkal and is married to Gigimol; they have a son, Adwait, and a daughter, Akshari.
Thomas is known for his novels Karikkottakkari and Puttu, and for his short stories such as Ramachi. Ramachi, a short story collection published in 2014, earned him the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Story in 2019. His debut novel Karikkottakkari chronicles the lives of migrants in a Kannur village, while his 2020 novel Puttu explores incest in a high-range village. He has also published Mullaranjaanam, another short story collection. One of his stories inspired the 2020 Malayalam film Churuli by Lijo Jose Pellissery.
In addition to the Akademi awards, Vinoy Thomas has received several honors, including the Sakhav Verghese Memorial Award, the Joseph Mundassery Award, the V. P. Sivakumar Memorial Keli Award, and the Kunjamu Purakkad Memorial Award. He continues to write and teach, contributing to Malayalam literature.
