Vanity (2015 film)
Vanity (La Vanité) is a 2015 French-Swiss drama film directed by Lionel Baier. It stars Patrick Lapp as David Miller, a man in his seventies who checks into a fleabag motel to end his life with assisted suicide. Esperanza (Carmen Maura), the administrator of the clinic, is assigned to help with his death, but the plan changes when a second witness is required. Treplev (Ivan Georgiev), a Russian rent boy in the next room, becomes involved and awakens David’s long-repressed homosexuality. The film is in French, runs 75 minutes, and premiered in the ACID program at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Queer Palm.
