Uzumba–Maramba–Pfungwe
Uzumba–Maramba–Pfungwe (UMP) is a rural district in Mashonaland East Province, Zimbabwe. It covers about 2,673 square kilometers and had a population of 124,226 in 2022, giving a density of around 46 people per square kilometer. The district includes the northern part of the old Murehwa District and the village of Uzumba. The Budja Shona people live there. Maize is the main food crop, with some vegetables grown as well.
UMP is divided into two electoral constituencies: Uzumba Constituency (Nakiwa, Uzumba, Muswe, Nyadiri, Karimbika) and Maramba-Pfungwe Constituency (Mutawatawa, Borera, Dindi, Kafura, Chitsungo).
The area is very rural and underdeveloped, with many residents relying on subsistence farming and facing poverty.
The Mbende Jerusarema dance, created by the Zezuru Shona in Uzumba and nearby Murewa, is recognized by UNESCO as an important part of Zimbabwe’s intangible cultural heritage.
