Carleton Ravens women's ice hockey
The Carleton Ravens women's ice hockey team represents Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. They play in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) conference and host games at the Carleton Ice House. Their colors are black and red, and the mascot is Rodney the Raven. The team is led by head coach Stacey Colarossi with assistants Tawnya Guindon, Matthew Jenkins, and Tricia Zakaria.
Historically, the Ravens have competed in different leagues, including the Quebec-based RSEQ and the national CIS championships. They’ve had notable moments, such as Valerie Charbonneau’s record-setting saves in 2006-07 and a 53-save playoff win in 2007. Kristen Marson set program records for games played and assists.
A 2012 upset of the top-ranked McGill Martlets in a shootout marked a landmark win for the program. The team also honored the memory of Daron Richardson with a charity event, reflecting their community involvement.
In 2013, a memorable shootout win against the cross-town Gee-Gees featured Jessica O’Grady scoring three goals. The Carleton Ice House served as a training site for the Germany women’s national team around the 2013 IIHF World Championship, with former Ravens captain Sara Seiler on the German squad.
From 2014 onward, coach Pierre Alain began a rebuild, followed by a heavy emphasis on freshmen in 2015-16. Delaney Ross set rookie scoring marks in 2016-17 and earned a place on the U Sports All-Rookie Team. The program has also recognized past rookies like Kerri Palmer.
The 2020-21 season was paused due to the Covid-19 pandemic, during which former Raven and current assistant coach Tawnya Guindon joined the U SPORTS Female Apprenticeship Coach Program. A standout first-year player, Emma Weller, gained national attention for charity work in Ottawa.
Today, the Ravens continue to develop players and compete in the OUA, aiming for ongoing success on both the provincial and national stage.
