Ross Bekkering
Ross Bekkering (born August 19, 1987) is a Canadian-Dutch former professional basketball player. He was born in Taber, Alberta, Canada, and is 2.04 meters tall, playing mainly as a power forward or center. He played college basketball at Calgary from 2005 to 2010 and started his professional career in the Netherlands in 2010.
He began with Zorg en Zekerheid Leiden (ZZ Leiden), winning the Dutch championship in his rookie year. After a season with Matrixx Magixx, he returned to Leiden, then joined Donar (GasTerra Flames) from 2013 to 2016, where he added two more DBL titles.
Bekkering’s career included four Dutch championships (2011, 2013, 2014, 2016), two Dutch Super Cups (2011, 2014), and multiple individual honors: All-DBL Team selections (2013, 2016), All-Defense Team (2014, 2016), DBL rebounding leader (2016), and DBL Statistical Player of the Year (2016). He was a five-time DBL All-Star (2011, 2013–2016). He retired on June 23, 2016, at age 28.
In 2020, four years after retirement, Bekkering played 3x3 basketball for the Netherlands national team. He represented the country at the Tokyo Olympics, where the team finished fifth. He is the younger brother of former pro player Henry Bekkering.
