Under the Thumb
Under the Thumb is the third single from Amy Studt's debut album False Smiles (2003). It was released on 29 September 2003 and reached number 10 on the UK Singles Chart and number 36 in Ireland. The song runs 3 minutes 45 seconds and was written by Amy Studt, Karen Poole and David Eriksen, with Eriksen producing.
The music video tells the story of a young woman who keeps her boyfriend on a short leash. He is shown tied to a chair at home while she goes about her day, even feeding him and washing his hair. There are newspaper clippings and TV reports suggesting they are missing; the police visit but don’t find anyone. By the end, she destroys her room, then lets him leave and locks the door behind him.
The single came out on UK and Australian CD formats and a UK cassette, with B-sides "False Smiles" and "Rose."
