2022 Hammarby Fotboll season
Hammarby Fotboll's 2022 season was their 107th overall, their 53rd in Allsvenskan, and their eighth consecutive year in the top flight. They competed in Allsvenskan and the Svenska Cupen as defending cup champions. The league started in April, and Martí Cifuentes led the team in his first season as head coach.
Coaching and staff changes
- Head coach Miloš Milojević was sacked on 13 December 2021 after actions related to seeking a move to Rosenborg, which the club condemned.
- In January 2022, Martí Cifuentes was appointed as head coach on a three-year contract, coming from AaB.
Transfers
- Out: Aziz Ouattara Mohammed to Genk for a fee reported around 30 million SEK (one of the club’s biggest transfers). Akinkunmi Amoo left for FC Copenhagen for about 46 million SEK (a club record at the time).
- In: Williot Swedberg sold to Celta de Vigo for about 56 million SEK (plus bonuses and sell-on), setting a new club record. In July, Hammarby paid a club-record fee to sign Veton Berisha from Viking FK for roughly 20 million NOK.
- Early 2022 also saw Martí Cifuentes take over the coaching reins.
Cup and league results
- Svenska Cupen: Hammarby reached the final in the 2021–22 edition but lost 4–5 on penalties after a 0–0 draw with Malmö FF (late May).
- Allsvenskan: Hammarby finished 3rd, earning qualification for the 2023–24 UEFA Europa Conference League.
Key players and statistics
- Nahir Besara played all 30 league matches, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists (the most assists in the league). He was nominated for Allsvenskan Midfielder of the Year; the award went to Mikkel Rygaard. Besara was also voted Hammarby Player of the Year by the club’s supporters.
- Gustav Ludwigson was the top scorer: 12 league goals (13 in all competitions).
- Attendance highs and lows: the highest home crowd was 30,216 on 2 April against Helsingborgs IF; the lowest was 14,153 on 20 February in the Svenska Cupen.
