Turonio
Turonio, also known as Toronho in Galician, Toroño in Spanish, and Turonium or Toronium in Latin, was the only part of the Conventus Bracarensis that did not join Afonso Henriques when Portugal declared independence in 1139. At the time it was a fief owned by Gómez Núñez, who supported a Portuguese invasion of Galicia but was defeated and exiled by Alfonso VII of León. Turonio lies south of the Ría de Vigo and the Verdugo river, and north and west of the Minho river. The placename is rarely used today, but it is being revived. Today most of the territory is part of the city of Vigo.
