Troy Victor Post
Troy Victor Post (February 3, 1906 – May 24, 1998) was an American insurance entrepreneur who helped build one of the nation’s largest insurance groups in the early 1960s. He was born in Haskell, Texas, to Effie and John Post. He started his own stock life insurance company in Haskell with just $130 and later moved to Dallas. After serving as a Major in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II, he formed Greatamerica Corporation in 1962.
As chairman and president of Greatamerica, he helped the company buy a controlling stake in Braniff International Airways in 1964, and he became chairman of Braniff’s board. He also served as chairman of National Car Rental beginning in 1964. In 1967, Ling-Temco-Vought (LTV) acquired Greatamerica, and Post stepped down from Braniff.
Post married Maurine Shook in 1926; they divorced in 1935. He then married Emma Louise "Lulu" Peavy in 1946, and they had four children: Troy Jr., John A., Jane, and Judy. He died in Dallas at age 92 and was buried in Sparkman-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Lulu died in 2009 and is buried beside him.
