Peter FitzHerbert

Peter FitzHerbert, also known as Piers FitzHerbert, was a 13th‑century English nobleman. He was the Lord of Blenlevenny, Governor of Pickering Castle, and Sheriff of Yorkshire, appointed by King John. He is listed among the counsellors named in Magna Carta in 1215. He died in 1235 and was buried at Reading Abbey in Yorkshire.

Origins and family: He was the son of Herbert FitzHerbert and Lucy of Hereford, who was the daughter of Miles of Gloucester, the 1st Earl of Hereford. Through his mother he inherited a third of the barony of Miles Fitz Walter of Gloucester in 1219. He held the title Lord of the Honour of Brecknock.

Castles and events: His castles at Blenlevenny and Castell Dinas were sacked in October 1233 by Llywelyn ap Iorwerth and Richard Marshal, 3rd Earl of Pembroke.

Marriages and children: He first married Alice de Warkworth (daughter of Robert fitzRoger and Margaret de Chesney); they had children. He then married Isabel de Ferriers (the widow of Roger Mortimer of Wigmore and the daughter of Walchelin de Ferriers of Oakham); they had no children.
