- The countdown for 2010 was announced and played on January 26, 2011.
- Voting ran from December 20, 2010, to January 16, 2011.
- A record 1.26 million votes were cast from 152 countries.

Notable facts
- The winning song, Big Jet Plane, made Angus & Julia Stone the first Australian band to win since Augie March in 2006. It also marked the first win by a female vocalist since 1996.
