Sami Mahdi Abbas (1940 – September 1, 2022) was an Iraqi poet and writer from Baghdad. He studied economics at the College of Arts, University of Baghdad. He held government roles, including Director General of the Department of Cultural Affairs at the Ministry of Culture and Information and Director General of Radio and Television. He also edited several newspapers and magazines, such as Al-Muthaqqaf Al-Arabi, Al-Aqlam, Alif Ba, and Al-Jumhuriya. He died in 2022 at about 82 years old.
