Tour of Romania
Tour of Romania, also known as Turul României and nicknamed the “Little Loop,” is Romania’s main road cycling race. It is a multi-day stage race that is part of the UCI Europe Tour as a 2.1 event and is organized by the Romanian Cycling Federation. The race takes place every September.
The Tour of Romania began in 1934 and, as of 2025, has had 57 editions. The first winner was Marin Nikolov of Bulgaria. The record for most wins is held by Constantin Dumitrescu and Mircea Romașcanu, each with three victories. The most recent winner is Cesare Chesini of Italy.
The event was inspired by the Tour de France. An early Romanian idea for a multi-stage race, Circuit Wallachia, started in 1910 but lasted only three editions. Since 1934, the Tour of Romania has grown into a major stage race. The first edition covered about 1,026 km over six stages. Different classifications in the race award leaders with distinctive jerseys.
