Sea of Voices is a song by Porter Robinson, released on March 2, 2014 as the lead single from his debut album Worlds. The track features Breanne Düren on vocals, though she isn’t credited in the song’s official listing. After feeling dissatisfied with his earlier EDM work, Robinson shifted toward music that focused on mood and beauty rather than making tracks just for DJs. He released Sea of Voices without heavy promotion to surprise fans, and it was well received, becoming a trending topic on Twitter and appearing on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs chart.

Critics praised the song’s atmosphere and its unusual structure. The opening builds with soft strings, wind chimes, and Düren’s distant vocals before swelling into a strong, emotional chorus. Some listeners compared its sound to bands like M83, Orbital, and Sigur Rós, and many saw it as a notable departure from Robinson’s previous style. Despite coming out just before the Oscars, it sparked online conversation and acclaim.

Porter Robinson had been known for electro and complextro hits such as Say My Name and Spitfire. He faced anxiety on stage in 2012 and decided to stop writing music aimed only at DJ sets, choosing instead to make music that felt honest and beautiful. He initially used a Vocaloid voice for Sea of Voices but eventually replaced it with Breanne Düren for the final version. The label had considered releasing Shepherdess as the lead single, but Porter released Sea of Voices to signal his new direction. A RAC remix was released on March 18, 2014, and Galimatias contributed a remix for Worlds Remixed in 2015.

In April 2021, Robinson cited Sea of Voices as an inspiration for his later track Unfold, which helped shape the sound of his album Nurture.
