Torricelli (crater)

Torricelli is a lunar impact crater in the eastern part of Sinus Asperitatis, just south of Mare Tranquillitatis. It is named after the Italian physicist Evangelista Torricelli. The crater is about 23 kilometers wide and around 2 kilometers deep. The western rim is broken and connected to a smaller crater to the west, giving Torricelli a pear-shaped appearance. It sits at the northeastern edge of a circular group of rises in the lunar mare, which may be the remains of a buried crater. On lunar maps, nearby craters are labeled with letters, and the letter is placed on the side of the small crater closest to Torricelli.
