Fengkai County
Fengkai County is in western Guangdong Province in southern China. It is governed by the city of Zhaoqing. The county covers 2,723 square kilometers and has about 375,000 residents (2020 census).
Fengkai was created in 1961 by merging two former counties, Fengchuan and Kaijian (also spelled Fungchuan/Fungshun and Hoikin). In history, Fengzhou, or Feng Prefecture, existed as a prefecture during the Tang and Song dynasties. In the Qing dynasty, Fengchuan and Kaijian were part of the Zhaoqing commandery. The name Fengkai combines the ideas of "sealed" and "opened."
