Thymelicus hyrax
Levantine skipper (Thymelicus hyrax) is a butterfly in the skipper family, Hesperiidae. It lives in parts of the Middle East and eastern Mediterranean—Iran, Syria, Israel, Jordan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, the Northwest Caucasus, Turkey, Greece—and several Aegean islands such as Lesbos, Chios, Samos and Rhodes. It prefers dry areas and open woodlands up to about 2,000 metres above sea level. The caterpillar’s food plant is likely Achnatherum bromoides. Adults fly from June to August, with one generation per year.
