Thomas Yeates
Thomas Yeates (born January 19, 1955) is an American comic artist best known for drawing the Prince Valiant and Zorro strips, and for work on Edgar Rice Burroughs characters. He was born in Sacramento, California, and began drawing young. He studied at Utah State University for two years and was part of The Kubert School’s first graduating class. His first published work was a five-page backup feature called Preacher in Sgt. Rock #312 (1978). He did spot illustrations for a Batman prose story in Detective Comics #500 (1981) and revived Claw the Unconquered in The Warlord #48–49 and Dragonsword in The Warlord #51–54. In 1982 he and writer Martin Pasko relaunched Saga of the Swamp Thing. He created Timespirits with Stephen Perry for Epic Comics. In 1987 he drew a Captain EO adaptation for Eclipse Comics, with 3D effects by Ray Zone. In 1989 Amazing Heroes named that 3D comic one of the best ever, praising Yeates’s art. Neil Gaiman invited him to draw The Sandman, but Yeates declined. He drew Universe X: Beasts and Cap for Marvel in 2001. On April 1, 2012, he began drawing Prince Valiant, replacing Gary Gianni. In 2014 he teamed with Sergio Aragonés and Mark Evanier for Groo vs. Conan at Dark Horse, and he received an Inkpot Award in 2012. Notable works include Conan, Prince Valiant, Tarzan, and Zorro.
