Thermalito is a census-designated place in Butte County, California, just north of the city of Oroville. The population was 7,198 in 2020, up from 6,646 in 2010. The area covers about 12.9 square miles, mostly land, with a small amount of water. It has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate.

The Thermalito Trail runs through Kilkare Canyon. A post office operated there from 1895 to 1920. Thermalito first appeared as an unincorporated community in the 1970 census and became a census-designated place in 1980. The community is closely tied to Oroville and surrounds parts of the city, connected by a narrow land strip near Afterbay.

Demographics (2020): about 62% White, 20% Asian, and 12% Hispanic or Latino (of any race), with other races making up the rest. There were around 2,430 households, with roughly 69% owner-occupied and the rest rented. The median age was about 39 years. The estimated 2023 median household income was about $53,800, with a per capita income around $30,500; about 9% of families and 17% of people were below the poverty line.

Most of Thermalito’s students attend the Thermalito Union School District or the Oroville Union High School District, with some areas in the Biggs Unified School District. Most high school students go to Oroville High School.
