The Red Solstice
The Red Solstice is a team-based tactical shooter and survival game for Windows, developed and published by Ironward. It entered early access in July 2014 and was released on July 10, 2015. It runs on Ironward’s Razor engine and is the first game in The Red Solstice series.
Story: A century after humans left Earth, a massive dust storm sweeps Mars. The violent storm, called The Red Solstice, cuts off contact with Tharsis, the Martian capital. Elite Elysium Corporation marines are sent to find out what happened.
Gameplay: The game supports 1-8 players in online co-op and can also be played solo. Players customize marines with gear, modules, and armor to change stats like abilities, accuracy, and speed. An ailment system adds challenges, with conditions such as bleeding or poisoning. There are several character classes from heavy fighters to support roles. The campaign follows Marine Tyler Hunt and his squad, and its story extends into multiplayer, offering extra details for each class.
Reception: The Red Solstice received mixed reviews. Some players noted bugs and a weak tutorial, but many found it rewarding when playing with friends.
Sequel: Red Solstice 2: Survivors was released on June 17, 2021 for Windows.
