Eric Saville
Eric Cowley Saville (3 February 1922 – 19 September 1943) was a South African fighter pilot in World War II, credited with eight kills.
Born in Eshowe, Natal, he attended Durban High School. He joined the South African Air Force and was posted to 2 Squadron SAAF on 15 October 1941. In August 1942 he moved to 112 Squadron as a flight commander.
Saville was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in September 1942 for five confirmed kills, two probables and three damaged. He received a bar to his DFC in December 1942, adding three more kills.
In May 1943 he was promoted and took command of 260 Squadron. He was shot down over Italy on 19 September 1943 and is buried in Naples War Cemetery. He held the rank of major and had service number 103255.
