Turnberry Band
Turnberry Band was a pact signed at Turnberry Castle in Carrick, Ayrshire, Scotland, on 20 September 1286. Scottish and Anglo-Irish nobles pledged to support Richard de Burgh, Earl of Ulster, and Richard de Clare in their affairs, stand by them against their enemies, and remain faithful to the King of England. It also provided for backing anyone who might become King of Scotland through kinship to Alexander III, the last king named Alexander. Signatories included leading nobles from the Bruce and Stewart families, such as Robert Bruce, Lord of Annandale; Robert Bruce, Earl of Carrick; James, Steward of Scotland; and Patrick, Earl of Dunbar, along with their sons. The pact is linked to later Bruce claims to the Scottish throne.
