The Hong Kong Life Saving Society
The Hong Kong Life Saving Society (HKLSS) is Hong Kong’s lifesaving organization. It trains people in water safety, first aid, and lifeguarding, and helps run lifesaving services in Hong Kong.
History
- 1950: The Life Saving Society started in Hong Kong as a branch of the Royal Life Saving Society UK.
- 1956: The Hong Kong Life Guard Club was created to run lifeguard duties, while the RLSS Hong Kong Branch handled training.
Formation of HKLSS
- 1997: The RLSS Hong Kong Branch merged with the Hong Kong Life Guard Club to form The Hong Kong Life Saving Society, adopting its current name before the handover of Hong Kong.
- HKLSS is a founding member of the International Life Saving Federation, the global body for lifesaving.
