Vehicle registration plates of Oman
Vehicle registration plates of Oman
Oman started using vehicle plates in 1970, and the current plate design has been in use since 2001. Plates measure about 520 mm by 110 mm (20.5 in by 4.3 in) and are black on yellow on both the front and rear of vehicles.
Format and meaning
The typical plate format is five digits followed by up to three letters, written as 99999 X(X(X)). The numbers are Arabic numerals, and the letters indicate the registration district or region.
Types of plates
There are many plate types for different uses, including Private, Taxi, Commercial, Learner driver, Government, Political bodies, Authority, Consulate, UN, Tractor, Bicycle, Export, Checking, Rental, and others.
In short, Oman’s plates use a five-digit number plus letters to show the district, with a long-standing format and several vehicle-specific varieties.
