The Great Blue Heron Music Festival
The Great Blue Heron Music Festival, often called Blue Heron, is a three-day annual festival held in Sherman, New York, on the first or second weekend of July. Each year thousands of people come to enjoy the music and the atmosphere.
The festival features more than 30 musicians and bands across three stages. The main stage hosts daytime and headlining acts, and a dance tent serves as a side stage. In 2010, a new stage was added near the cafe in the woods.
Musical styles at Blue Heron include bluegrass, Cajun, zydeco, African, reggae, Americana, old-time, Irish, and jam bands. In recent years, it has also hosted popular national acts such as Rusted Root and The Avett Brothers.
The first Blue Heron took place in 1992. It began as a small single-day gathering featuring Donna The Buffalo and soon expanded into a three-day festival.
The festival grounds cover more than 300 acres.
Past performers include Donna the Buffalo, 10,000 Maniacs, Alison Pipitone, Hypnotic Clambake, Jim Donovan, The Avett Brothers, Rusted Root, The Campbell Brothers, The Tarbox Ramblers, Tim O'Brien, and many others.
