The Gardens is a small inner suburb of Darwin in the Northern Territory, Australia. It sits about 2.2 km from Darwin’s city center and covers around 1.8 square kilometres. In 2016, 728 people lived there.

The area lies on the traditional lands of the Larrakia people.

The suburb gets its name from the nearby George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens. The gardens began in 1878 under Maurice Holtze and were named after a former Lord Mayor of Darwin who helped manage them. The gardens are known for having one of the Territory’s largest palm collections. Holtze used the Gardens to test growing sugar cane and cotton in the Territory.

In 1968, a nearby residential area was called Palmerston Gardens, but to avoid confusion with the new town of Palmerston, the suburb was officially named The Gardens in 1984.

Nearby areas include Darwin Harbour, Fannie Bay, Parap, Stuart Park, Larrakeyah, and Darwin City.
