The Death of Feminism: What's Next in the Struggle for Women's Freedom is a 2005 non-fiction book by Phyllis Chesler, published in the United States by Palgrave Macmillan. Chesler argues that contemporary feminism has failed to oppose Islamism and has shown moral bankruptcy for not addressing Muslim gender oppression. The title signals this critique. The book also includes a personal account of Chesler being held by her husband’s family in Afghanistan. In the final chapter she urges feminists to reconsider any pro-Islamist positions. Critics had mixed reactions: Kirkus Reviews called it a fierce polemic filled with vigorous arguments and distressing human stories, while Publishers Weekly said it raises important issues but its style may alienate the very audience it hopes to reach.
