This is a simplified timeline of Serer history.

- The Serer people live in Senegal, The Gambia, and Mauritania. Their story covers archaeology, religion, and kingly power, among other things.

- During conflicts and the spread of Islam, many Serers who refused to convert left Takrur and moved south to lands that would become the Serer kingdoms of Sine, Saloum, and Baol. They were welcomed by distant Serer relatives and protected by the Great Council of Lamanes, the highest Serer court.

- Takrur was among the first in the region to adopt Islam, which helped erode its Serer identity.

- War Jabi died in 1040 and was succeeded by his son Leb (also called Labi). Leb became a strong ally of the Almoravids. By 1056, he was said to be fighting for them, likely after Takrur came under Almoravid control in 1042 and Sharia law was enforced there.
