FC Südtirol
FC Südtirol, commonly called Südtirol, is a Italian football club from Bolzano in South Tyrol. The club’s full name is Fußball Club Südtirol S.r.l. and its nicknames are Biancorossi (White and Reds), Tirolesi (Tyroleans), and Altoatesini/Südtirolesi (South Tyroleans). It started in 1974 as SV Milland Fussball, became FC Südtirol–Alto Adige in 1995, and was renamed F.C. Südtirol in 2000.
They play at the Stadio Marco Druso in Bolzano, which holds 5,500 spectators. The club is chaired by Gerhard Comper and managed by Fabrizio Castori. In the 2024–25 season they compete in Serie B and finished 10th of 20. Their colors are white and red: home kits are usually white and away kits red. The club’s crest features a white-red diamond pattern with a football, and the words FC Südtirol Bolzano – Bozen.
History in brief: South Tyrolean football aimed to regain professional status in the 1990s after FC Bolzano faced difficulties. SV Milland was bought and renamed FC Südtirol–Alto Adige in 1995, reflecting the province’s Italian and German names. The team climbed from regional leagues to Serie D by 1997–98 and then moved into the professional levels in 2000 (Serie C2). Over the years the club built itself up through the lower tiers and focused on youth development during tougher times.
A major milestone came in 2021–22 when Südtirol won Serie C and earned promotion to Serie B for the first time in 2022–23. In their Serie B debut season, they finished 6th with 58 points and reached the promotion playoffs, beating Reggina in the preliminary round before being eliminated by Bari in the semi-finals. The 2023–24 season kept them in Serie B, with coach Bisoli replaced by Federico Valente partway through the year.
Their training center is the FCS Center in Rungg-Maso Ronco (Eppan), about 9 km from Bolzano. It has multiple pitches, a gym and medical facilities, and even served as a base for national teams preparing for World Cups.
