National Wear Red Day
National Wear Red Day happens in February. People wear red to show support for heart disease awareness. In the United States, it falls on the first Friday in February each year. The day is run by The Heart Truth, a campaign from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Heart Truth promotes awareness of heart disease in women and created the Red Dress as its symbol in 2002. The goal is to remind women that heart disease is their top health threat. In the United Kingdom, Wear Red Day also happens on the first Friday in February and is organized by the Children's Heart Surgery Fund, a charity from Yorkshire, to raise awareness of congenital heart disease.
