The Cat (1992 film)

Overview
The Cat, also known as The 1000 Years Cat, is a 1992 Hong Kong science-fiction action movie directed by Lam Ngai Kai. It’s based on Old Cat, a story from Ni Kuang’s Wisely series. The film stars Waise Lee, Christine Ng, and Gloria Yip. It runs 84 minutes and was produced by Golden Harvest and Paragon Films.

Plot (simple version)
- A man named Li Tung notices strange activity and sees a girl with a cat who later leaves in a moving van with the cat.
- The next day, Tung learns the apartment is empty and finds strange organ evidence, suggesting something otherworldly.
- The girl, the cat, and a knight named Errol steal an octagonal artifact from a museum. A fungal, electricity-powered monster appears and attacks the guards.
- Wisely, a writer, and his partner Pai So get involved and suspect the girl and the cat are aliens from another star.
- The cat calls himself the General, and he needs a second octagon to help defeat the monster. The cat’s tail is cut and later reattached with alien help.
- The group chases the second octagon and confronts the monster on a rooftop and at an observatory, where a beam from the aliens’ home star helps reveal the plan.
- The General uses the completed octagon to fly into the monster’s mouth and destroy it from the inside, causing it to explode.
- The girl and the General return home. Wisely declines to give the press a story, saying readers can learn about the events in his next novel.
