Prem Singh Rathore
Prem Singh Rathore is an Indian politician from Hyderabad, Telangana. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and, as of April 2024, was appointed Hyderabad Lok Sabha Co-ordinator (in-charge) and overseeing nearby areas. He previously represented the Goshamahal assembly seat in the Telangana Legislative Assembly as a BJP MLA.
Rathore began his political career with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and then joined BJP. He was recommended by Bhairon Singh Shekhawat to contest from Maharajganj (now Goshamahal) in 1999 and won. He has held several leadership roles in the BJP, including state Vice President, General Secretary, and Hyderabad City President with responsibility for surrounding districts. He briefly joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and served as the first Chairman of the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation under Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).
In the 2018 Telangana Assembly elections, Rathore ran as a TRS candidate from Goshamahal and lost to T. Raja Singh of the BJP. He rejoined the BJP in 2023, just before the state elections; his return was seen as helping Raja Singh gain swing votes in Goshamahal.
Rathore has been involved in several controversies. A 2009 report estimated his wealth at about $12.5 million, which opponents used in campaigns. Rival Mukesh Goud accused him of promoting a Bal Thackeray–driven agenda. He has faced multiple arrests, including during the Telangana movement and for a 2002 Begum Bazar incident where he confronted police. In 2013 he was also booked for making threatening remarks against a Cantonment CEO.
