Ted Harvey
Ted Harvey is an American Republican politician from Colorado. He served in the Colorado House of Representatives for District 43 from 2001 to 2007, and then in the Colorado Senate representing District 30 from January 2007 to January 2015. The Senate district covers Northern Douglas County, including Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Parker, and Roxborough Park.
Harvey was born in Colorado Springs and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Colorado State University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Colorado Denver. He has held various roles, including a White House staffer during the Reagan administration at age 22, a House reading clerk, program director at the Independence Institute, and district office manager for Congressman Joel Hefley.
In the Colorado House, he served as vice chair of the Agriculture Livestock & Natural Resources committee and as chair of the Capital Development Committee. In 2006, he was elected to the Colorado Senate, defeating Shelly Tokerud with 62.7% of the vote. He won re-election in 2010 with about 67% of the vote against Katherine Facchinello. During 2011, he focused on election integrity, sponsoring bills to require proof of citizenship to vote and to define acceptable election-related identification.
Harvey has also sought federal office. In 2008, he ran for Colorado’s 6th congressional district, won the Republican nomination but finished third in the primary. He later ran for Colorado’s 4th district in 2024, but was eliminated at the Republican convention and did not advance to the primary.
He has been active in national party politics, serving as a delegate to multiple Republican National Conventions (including 2012, 2016, and 2020). Harvey chaired the Stop Hillary PAC, later renamed the Committee to Defend the President to support Donald Trump. After the 2020 election, the group became the Committee to Defeat the President to oppose President Biden, with Harvey continuing as chairman.
