Tappi Iwase, also known as TAPPY, is a Japanese composer best known for his work on the Metal Gear and Suikoden games. He studied music with Dick Grove at the Grove School of Music until it closed in 1991. Iwase wrote nearly all of Metal Gear Solid’s music, except the ending theme “The Best Is Yet to Come”; the cinematic score was by Gigi Meroni. The Metal Gear Solid main theme, composed by Iwase, was later used in Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3. Starting with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, the theme was dropped amid plagiarism allegations concerning melodies similar to those by Russian composer Georgy Sviridov.
