Driehuizen, Alkmaar
Driehuizen is a small village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is part of the municipality of Alkmaar and sits about 8 km south of the city of Alkmaar. The name means Three houses and it was first mentioned in 1639. The village grew on the former island of Schermereiland. Legend says there were three houses in 1603. After the Schermer was turned into a polder in 1635, a road connected Driehuizen to Zuidschermer.
In 1840 the village had 156 residents. Today, around 245 people live there (2021). Driehuizen covers 4.47 km² and lies about 2.2 meters below sea level. The former Dutch Reformed church, an aisleless building with a wooden tower, was built in 1912 to replace a church from 1648 and is now used as a village house. Postal code 1844 and dialing code 0299.
