Shortlist Media Limited
Shortlist Media Limited was a UK publisher and media platform founded in 2007. It published the magazines ShortList and Stylist, and ran digital brands Emerald Street and Mr. Hyde. The company launched ShortList as a free weekly magazine in 2007, introducing a freemium model.
DC Thomson was an early investor and, in 2015, gained full ownership by buying the remaining 50% of the company. In October 2018 co-founder Mike Soutar left as chairman, and in November 2018 Shortlist print editions ended as the group rebranded to The Stylist Group. The Stylist Group is wholly owned by DC Thomson. Ella Dolphin is listed as the current CEO. Shortlist Media was founded by Mike Soutar, Tim Ewington, Karl Marsden, Phil Hilton, and Matt Phare.
The audience, known as the Met Set, is described as urban, time-poor but well-informed, with readers who are successful and engaged. In November 2016, Shortlist Media launched its in-house content studio, Family, to create branded content for partners such as Ford, Not On The High Street, and Givenchy. Within a year, Family’s share of Shortlist Media’s revenue rose from about 30% to about 50%, according to CMO Sophie Robinson.
