Surveillance (FM album)
Surveillance is the third album by FM, a progressive rock band from Toronto. It was released in 1979 on Passport Records and was the first FM album to be widely issued. The 36-minute space-rock record reached #69 on the Canadian charts in December 1979 and was remastered and reissued on CD by Esoteric Records in March 2013. The album continues the space-rock style introduced on Black Noise, with the opening track featuring the chant “Sci-fi rock, rocket roll.” It includes FM’s first cover, “Shapes of Things” by The Yardbirds (1966), which was released as a US single (Arista 0477). The mostly instrumental track “Sofa Back” became a live favorite, partly because audiences would chant the Three Stooges chant “Moe, Larry, cheese” during performances. “Random Harvest” later appeared on the 2006 Katrina benefit album After The Storm. A remastered Surveillance was released by Esoteric Records in 2013 (ECLEC2383). All songs are credited to Cameron Hawkins, Martin Deller, and Ben Mink, except where noted.
