Storkenkopf is the second-highest peak in the Vosges Mountains. It rises to about 1,366 meters (4,482 feet) and is located in Alsace, France, near the Grand Ballon. The name means “storks' head” in German and Alsatian. The summit lies between the villages of Saint-Amarin, Geishouse and Lautenbachzell in Haut-Rhin. Close to the top is the ferme du Haag, a farm that also offers lodging. The Route des Crêtes road runs nearby, and you can reach the summit on foot by a forest service road for about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles).
