Fifty Roads to Town
Fifty Roads to Town is a 1937 American romantic comedy directed by Norman Taurog, starring Don Ameche and Ann Sothern. It’s based on Frederick Nebel’s novel of the same name.
Plot: Peter Norstrand flees a warrant in New York and heads north to hide. Millicent Kendall, a lodge guest who is really a missing heiress planning to elope, meets him and ends up with a document that Peter makes her burn—unaware it’s her own marriage license. He forces her to spend the night in his cabin, and when she tries to escape in the snow, he takes away one of her shoes. A sheriff and deputies are hunting another fugitive, Dutch Nelson, and mistake Peter for a trapper. Peter fires his gun to scare them, and they respond with machine guns and tear gas. Peter later explains the warrant was only to force him to testify in a friend’s divorce. As Millicent falls in love with him, the real Dutch arrives, bringing more trouble.
