Stewart's Restaurants
Stewarts Restaurants are classic 1950s-style fast-food places in the United States. They began in 1924 in Mansfield, Ohio, started by Frank Stewart as a drive-in that sold root beer and popcorn. The business grew and began franchising in 1931. As of 2021, about 30 locations remain, mostly in New Jersey, with others in New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Stewart's is famous for its Fountain Classics root beer, which can be bottled, served in a frosted mug, or as a float. Most locations offer hot dogs, burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, cheesesteaks, ice cream and milkshakes. Menu options vary by location. Express locations have a simpler menu, while full-service locations serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The first Stewart's Drive-In opened in 1924 in Mansfield.
Ownership has changed over the years. Frostie Enterprises bought the company in 1971, later passing to Moxie Industries and then the DeNovo Corporation in 1979, which also ran Dog n Suds. One of the DeNovo owners, Michael W. Fessler, still owns Stewarts Restaurants, Inc.
