Steam separator
A steam separator, also called a moisture separator or steam drier, removes water droplets from steam. The simplest example is the steam dome on a steam locomotive. In larger boilers and in nuclear plants, separators may spin the steam so droplets are flung outward by centrifugal force and collected. All separators rely on steam traps to remove the collected water. Removing water from steam helps protect equipment and improve efficiency, and a steam drier can also be used as a low-temperature superheater to add heat to the steam.
