The Reincarnation of a Surfboard
The Reincarnation of a Surfboard is a series of sculptures by Ithaka Darin Pappas, a contemporary artist who is also a musician, photographer, writer and surfer. The project began in 1989 and includes about 300 wall-mounted pieces made from recycled surfboards. The works have been shown on four continents: Asia, Europe, North America and South America. Recent solo exhibitions include Gallery WOA in Cascais, Portugal (December 2012), Hurley International in Costa Mesa, California (October 2013), and F+ Gallery in Santa Ana, California (February 2015). In December 2012, Fuel TV Europe called Pappas "The Godfather of Contemporary Surf Art" in connection with his Gallery WOA show.
